Urbana falls in girls tennis

Bellefontaine beat Urbana 3-2, in CBC girls tennis.

At first singles, Haylee Johns lost to Cambria Elkins, 7-6, (8-6), 6-1.

At second singles, Morgan Lattimer lost to Livi Robbins, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

At third singles, Katie Asper defeated Khloe Slagle, 6-2, 6-0.

At first doubles, Bri Ussher/Olivia Krieger defeated Devyn Croston/Abbi Adelsberger, 6-0, 6-0.

At second doubles, Myea Ogden/ Kim Lebo lost to Cassidy Braun/Gracie Beaverson, 6-1, 6-0.

“Despite the loss, it was a great team effort,” said UHS Coach Megan Michael. “The girls continue to improve and it was exciting to have a full roster.”

Peterson sets kills record

WL-S lost to Southeastern in four sets, 25-20, 25-19, 24-26, 25-19, in OHC volleyball.

Jamie Peterson broke WL-S’s career kill record of 1,229 kills after getting 36 kills against Southeastern. Peterson’s career kill record is currently 1,236 kills. She is second in the state with a hitting percentage of .547, tied for first in the state for kills per set (6.8), and has a kill percentage of 63.7. Against Southeastern, Peterson also had 3 total blocks, 3 ace serves and 16 digs. Olivia Ames had 20 digs and 38 serve receptions, Tory Cordell had 8 kills and 3 total blocks, Kylie Gilroy had 46 assists and Emily Schultz had 16 serve receptions and 8 digs.

Urbana volleyball loses

Shawnee defeated Urbana 25-15, 25-14, 25-19 in non-divisional CBC volleyball Tuesday.

Hunter Rogan and Mckenzee Martin each had 6 kills. Olivia Dunham had 17 assists.

The Urbana jayvee lost 14-25, 20-25 and the freshmen lost 20-25, 15-25.

Urbana hosts Indian Lake on Thursday.

Urbana girls lose in soccer

Tecumseh beat Urbana, 2-0, in CBC girls soccer.

Sara Lingrell had 8 saves for UHS in goal.

Tecumseh won the jayvee match, 2-0.

WL-S girls top M’burg

WL-S beat Mechanicsburg, 7-0, in OHC girls soccer.

Scoring goals for the Tigers were Gabby Hollar (3), Annika Wolfe (2), Mikalia McIntosh and Laura Neer.

Adding assists were Madison Oelker (2) and Lily Yoder.

Senior keeper Chayna Sanford had 28 saves for the Indians.

WL-S hosts Southeastern on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Jayvee soccer

The WL-S jayvee boys soccer team lost to Miami East. Jacob VanHorn scored the Tigers’ goal from a Mason Woodruff assist. Zane Woodruff recorded 6 saves. The jayvee team is now 1-1.

Jayvee football

WL-S lost to Kenton Ridge, 8-0, in jayvee football.

Junior high volleyball

The WL-S 7th graders were defeated by Triad, 22-25, 20-25. Alyssa Johnson had 7 aces and Kaleigh Wilcox added 4 good serve receives for the Tigers.

The WL-S 8th graders beat Triad, 25-21, 18-25, 25-16. Sydnee Payer had 7 aces, Ryleigh Johns added 7 and Anna Kauffman had 4 good serve receives for the Tigers.

Junior high cross country

West Liberty-Salem won the girls’ junior high cross country meet at Ohio Caverns.

Grace Adams (1st, 12:39), Katelyn Stapleton (2nd, 13:02) and Madison Bahan (3rd, 13:11) powered the Tigers.

Holly Kamper (7th, 14:22), Randi Nichols (11th, 15:18) and Macaylah Lyon (18th, 15:55) were the top finishers for third-place Graham.

Graham was second in the boys’ race, with WL-S fifth and Triad sixth.

Ryan Dunham (3rd, 12:46), Haydon Caskey (5th, 13:13) and Owen McGuffey (15th, 14:02) were high finishers for the Falcons.

Noah Smith (1st, 11:38), Cade Clerico (11th, 13:41) and Hayden Kennedy (17th, 14:11) were top placers for West Liberty-Salem.

Eli O’Brien (2nd, 12:08), Matthew Wells (35th, 16:38) and Ryland Smiles (36th, 16:38) paced Triad.

Junior high football

Graham’s 7th graders beat Northwestern, 21-0.

Standouts for Graham were Brady King, Nick Moore, Trace Braun, Ryan Turner, Gavin Adams, Gavin Arnett, Brenton Black and Ethan Grove.
