BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Urbana University volleyball team has been picked fourth in the 2015 Mountain East Conference Preseason Poll, as voted on by the league’s 12 head coaches.

The Blue Knights are led by first-year head coach Tim Balice, who took over the program in June. Balice inherited a solid roster, which features 13 returners, including sophomore outside hitter Katlynn Dunlap.

Dunlap ranked second in the MEC in kills-per-set in 2014 and was tabbed the league’s freshman of the year.

Wheeling Jesuit has been picked by the coaches in the MEC to win its third straight league title in volleyball. The Cardinals finished atop the poll with 121 points and 11 first-place votes.

Fairmont State, the league’s runner-up in each of the last two seasons, is picked to finish second behind WJU with 103 points and had the remaining first-place vote. Shepherd is picked third with 92 points, followed by UU (82) and West Liberty (70). Concord and West Virginia Wesleyan tied for sixth in the poll with 60 points, with Charleston (58), UVa-Wise (56) and Notre Dame (54) narrowly behind. West Virginia State (25) and Glenville State (11) rounded out the poll.

UU opens the season on Sept. 4-5 at the Hall of Fame City Challenge, hosted by Malone in Canton, Ohio. The home opener is slated for Tuesday, Sept. 8, against Ursuline College at 7 p.m. in the Grimes Center.
