DeGRAFF – It was Kids Night at Shady Bowl Speedway Saturday with a huge crowd on hand. The younger fans ran big wheel races, and had a penny scramble. In addition, school backpacks were awarded that were packed with school supplies. The kids were also entertained by a dunking tank and a wrestling exhibition.

In racing action, the late model main saw Mike Ward led the first five laps, before giving way to Shawn Stroble. Stroble led until lap 22 when Quincy’s Josh Smith motored by. Smith went on to post the win in his CS and SS LLC sponsored Monte Carlo.

Stroble, last week’s winner, held on for second, with Greg Stapleton, Ward and Russ Bobb finishing third through fifth. Stroble won the dash, with Jerry Schaffer taking the heat win. Smith was fast qualifier.

This Saturday will be the “Purtee Family Classic,” a night of racing to honor the Purtee family that has seen three generations compete at Shady Bowl. Racing will start at 7 p.m.
