Urbana University head women’s volleyball coach Tim Balice announced the complete coaching staff for the upcoming season as the team’s first official practice got under way on Monday.

In his first year at the helm of the Blue Knights, Balice will be joined on the sidelines by Matt Girouard, Bryan Bastuba, Sean McMorrow and Kayla Peterson.

“I’m very excited to have a great staff ready to go for this year,” Balice said. “We really focused on adding individuals that bring unique and innovative strategies that fit the philosophy of Urbana volleyball. This group gets it, and I couldn’t be more excited to get the season started.”

Peterson brings collegiate playing experience and local ties to the Blue Knight program.

A 2011 graduate of West Liberty-Salem High School, she went on to start four years at Alderson Broaddus where she piled up over 3,000 career assists and earned all-conference accolades. Peterson graduated Cum Laude with a degree in accounting and business administration last spring.

“We are extremely excited to have Kayla on staff and can’t wait to get her in the gym,” Balice said. “Kayla not only played collegiately, but she deeply understands the concept of building a culture of competition. Her experience on the court also gives her a very unique perspective that relates to our athletes. Kayla has an extremely bright future and we are thankful she is now part of the Urbana family.”

The Blue Knights will open the 2015 campaign at the Hall of Fame City Challenge, hosted by Malone, on Sept. 4-5 in Canton, Ohio.
