BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. – Urbana University’s Chanelle Bondurant has been voted to the 2016 Women’s Lacrosse All-Mountain East Conference Second Team, as announced by the MEC headquarters on Wednesday. It’s her second All-MEC accolade after earning honorable mention last season.

Bondurant, a senior from Pickerington, Ohio, led UU in scoring with a career-high 30 goals on 73 shots (.411) and tallied a career-high 31 points this season. The midfielder accounted for 43 percent of the team’s scoring this season and netted 63 career goals, which became the third most ever scored by a Blue Knight.

One of the many highlights this season for Bondurant came in a road contest at Ohio Northern, where she scored the fifth-most goals in a game by a Blue Knight with six. She also posted a team-high eight games with two or more goals.

In addition, Bondurant set a program standard for the most career ground balls with a total of 151. She pulled in a career-high 55 ground balls in 2016 to break the previous career record of 129 held by Nora Boerger.

Regular season Mountain East Conference champion Wheeling Jesuit claimed three of the top honors in the league as Elizabeth Hales was named Offensive Player of the Year, Holly Deckert was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year and Cardinals head coach Tim Florence was tabbed as the league Coach of the Year. West Virginia Wesleyan standout Madison Duvall was chosen as the conference’s Freshman of the Year.

Baseball schedule altered

UU baseball coach Mike Goldschmidt announced schedule changes to the upcoming weekend series against Wheeling Jesuit, due to the threat of rain in Sunday’s forecast.

The series opening doubleheader at UU Baseball Field has been moved up to Friday, while the teams will keep Saturday’s twinbill as planned. Game times remain unchanged with a 1 p.m. start on both days.

Both teams are vying for position in the MEC North Division.

Wheeling (12-12) is currently in third place and one game ahead of UU in the standings. The Blue Knights (11-13) are tied for fourth with West Liberty and hold that tiebreaker as the top four teams earn bids to the conference tournament.

All four games in this weekend’s series will feature live stats broadcast through UUBlueKnights.com.
