BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. – Urbana University senior pitcher Austin Mace has been selected the Mountain East Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league’s office Monday afternoon.

Mace, a native of Davidson, North Carolina, is enjoying a stellar campaign as the ace of the UU pitching staff.

In his most recent outing, Mace tossed a two-hit gem in UU’s 3-2 win at Glenville State last Friday. Both Pioneer runs were unearned against Mace as he improved to 4-2 on the year.

He finished with eight punchouts, which equals his season-high total, and recorded his fourth consecutive complete game.

The 6-foot-1 right hander has been strong all season. In seven starts, Mace has limited opposing hitters to a .249 batting average while registering 44 strikeouts in 43.1 innings pitched.

The weekly award is the second of Mace’s career and he became the second Blue Knight to earn MEC Pitcher of the Week this spring.

UU returns to action Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference matchup against Ohio Valley. First pitch at UU Baseball Field is scheduled for 3 p.m.
