Senior midfielder Chanelle Bondurant scored a season-high four goals but it wasn’t enough as Urbana University fell to visiting Alderson Broaddus, 17-6, at UU Stadium on Friday afternoon.

Things looked bright for UU (0-3) after grabbing an early edge. Bondurant gave UU its first lead of the season on her first strike just two minutes into the game. A minute later, freshman midfielder Nicole Camponeschi deposited her first career goal and lifted the Blue Knights to an early 2-0 advantage.

From there, the Blue Knights struggled to get shots off. The visitors tied the score at 2-2 with 18 minutes left in the first half, and then grabbed the lead for good five minutes later.

Midfielder Taylor Henderson produced three shots on goal and found the back of the net late in the opening half to cut the deficit to 5-3. However, ABU scored three times over the final minutes and took an 8-3 lead into haftime. The Battlers then out-scored UU 9-3 in the second stanza.

The Battlers out-shot the Blue Knights 34-16, while ground balls were even at 25 apiece.

Bondurant scored all three goals for the Blue Knights in the second frame and led the squad with six shots on goal.

The Blue Knights will continue their homestand with a 3 p.m. Sunday matchup against Ursuline College.
