Urbana University Athletic Director Doug Young announced the hiring of new Head Women’s Golf Coach Sarah Ramsey following the team’s fall season. Ramsey will take over the NCAA Division II program before the golfers resume their 2013-14 season in the spring. She becomes the third head coach in team’s nine-year history. This is Ramsey’s first collegiate head coaching position.
“Sarah was an ideal candidate for the position,” explained Young. “She’s motivated to get back involved with a game she loves and her enthusiasm is contagious. Sarah was an exemplary student-athlete during her playing days, and we are excited to have her aboard to share her knowledge and experience with our talented women’s golf team.”
Ramsey was a four-year standout for the Malone University women’s golf team. She played for the Pioneer squad that won an American Mideast Conference Championship in 2008 and finished 22nd at the NAIA National Tournament. Ramsey served as a team captain during her junior and senior seasons, and after her playing career was over, she stayed on as an assistant coach for the Pioneers during the fall of 2010. Ramsey graduated from Malone with a degree in Business Administration in December of 2010. Later, she completed her Master’s in Business Administration at Indiana Wesleyan University in August of 2013. Since that time, Ramsey has also been serving as an adjunct professor in the College of Business Administration at Urbana University. She’s also the Director of Business and Marketing at Mission Adventures in nearby Springfield, Ohio.
“I would like to thank the Urbana University Athletic Department for the opportunity to coach the Lady Blue Knights’ Golf Team,” announced Ramsey upon her hiring. “I am excited for the opportunity to coach this team for many reasons. I believe their eagerness to succeed and drive to win on and off the course will lead them to a winning season this spring. After meeting with the team, I can say with confidence that we are going to do great things together.”
