Thursday Morning Hike, every Thursday morning, 9 a.m.

George Rogers Clark Park

Join the Clark County Park District each Thursday morning to enjoy a walk in one of our parks. Meet at George Rogers Clark Park at the parking lot below the dam. Keep your eyes and ears open for birds, plants and insects and get some exercise at the same time. Meet some new friends or catch up with some old ones.

Shamrock Hunt, March – All month

It’s Shamrock month! During the month of March, a little leprechaun will “plant” shamrocks along the trails, in an effort to fool you! Each shamrock will contain cool animal facts on critters that live in the Park District. Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by getting outside with your family. Search for the shamrocks in George Rogers Clark Park throughout the month to see how many you can find and what you can learn along the way.

Fireside History Chat: History by the Pint, Tuesday, March 8, 7 p.m.

Davidson Interpretive Center

Pre-registration is required and registration is limited to 40.

Beer, one of the oldest drinks in the world, continues to flow from taps today. However, this bubbly refreshment has changed with the times. Drink in some history served in a pint as we explore how beer has evolved with society. Discover how a simple glass of ale was impacted by agriculture, industry, transportation, immigration, and energy. Participants will receive tastes of various historical beverages. All participants must be 21 years of age or older. This program is presented by Carillon Brewing Company – Dayton History’s fully operational 1850s brewery and restaurant in Carillon Historical Park, Dayton. There is a $5.00 fee for this program.

Stargaze,*Thursday, March 10-18 (clearest night), 8:30-10:30 p.m.

Davidson Interpretive Center

Join us for an evening under the stars as we explore the mysteries of the night sky. Enjoy a view like never before with our 14 inch telescope that even allows you to see the rings of Saturn. Bring something to sit on and dress for the weather. Pre-registration is required and registration is limited to 40 participants.

*This stargaze is listed as a span of dates. Once we know the best day for viewing, we will contact those registered and also post on Facebook page about 48 hours in advance.

Wetland Warriors – Ages 7-12

This year-round program encourages children to get outside, make new discoveries and foster new friendships while learning about nature firsthand. Children explore the natural environment and history of our area through hands on activities outdoors. Please dress in weather-appropriate gear and footwear. In case of inclement weather, the program is moved indoors at the Davidson Interpretive Center. Pre-registration is required and registration is limited to 15 participants.

Salamander Hike, Thursday, March 17, 4-6 p.m.

George Rogers Clark Park

Go on a search on Tecumseh Trail for the elusive salamander. We’ll look for these quiet amphibians under logs and rocks.

“Step into Spring” Hike, Saturday, March 19, 10-11 a.m.

Meet at Demint Shelter

It’s that time of year…when the green starts to pop out from under the snow and life seems to take flight in the forest. We will look for migrating waterfowl such as hooded mergansers and golden eyes, search for birds building nests and maybe find salamanders under logs. Join us as we celebrate the start of the spring season. Please dress for the weather. Bring binoculars if you have them!

Caterpillar Club– Ages 3-5 and adult companion

Preschoolers are naturally curious about the outdoors and oftentimes notice things adults overlook. Each program will be adapted from the Growing Up WILD guide, an early childhood education program that builds on children’s sense of wonder about nature and invites them to explore wildlife and the world around them. Through a wide range of activities and experiences, Growing Up WILD provides an early foundation for developing positive impressions about nature and lifelong social and academic skills.

Please dress appropriately for walking in nature. Pre-registration is required and registration is limited to 15 preschoolers.

Bird Beak Buffet– Tuesday, March 22, 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Davidson Interpretive Center

Children learn about the special functions of bird beaks as they pretend to “eat” like a bird.

Homeschool History Programs – Ages 6-12

Come to the interpretive center and experience early American history in a unique, hands-on way. Learn how to be a soldier, reenact the battle of Peckuwe and discover what home life was like in the mid-19th century. This series of historical, hands-on programs is designed for homeschoolers. Children are welcome to wear period – appropriate clothing for these programs. Participants must wear closed-toe shoes, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt. Please pre-register for these programs.

Life in an Indian Village – Wednesday, March 23, 1:30-3 p.m.

George Rogers Clark Park; meet at Indian Village

Tour the homes in an Eastern Woodland Indian village, learn about the Shawnee way of life and enjoy a visit from Black Hoof.
