Board of Elections seeking applications for director

The Champaign County Board of Elections is accepting applications to replace Director Kathy Meyer.

Meyer will be leaving after the March presidential primary to serve as Allen County’s director. She officially starts March 31.

The board met Monday to discuss the process for bringing in a new director, Deputy Director Meredith Bodey said. The board ideally wants to hire someone before Meyer leaves.

The position will be posted on the elections board website and the Secretary of State’s website and will be advertised in the Daily Citizen. Applications must be postmarked by March 1.

Candidates must have at least a high school or equivalent diploma, and some college is preferred. No special licensing is needed, though elections experience is a plus. The candidate will need to manage databases and use Microsoft Office products, among other software. The person will need to learn various voter registration and elections software and become familiar with voting machines.

Another requirement is the ability to deal with stress and deadlines.

The elections board will meet March 2 for its organizational meeting and to discuss the applications received. If a candidate ready by the time Meyer leaves, Bodey said she may be appointed as acting director.
