Dozens of artistic works demonstrating the talent of people with ties to Urbana University will be featured in an upcoming exhibit in the university’s Miller Center for Visual Arts (Browne Hall).

The Urbana University Faculty and Staff Art Show, scheduled Feb. 17 through March 5, will feature 40 pieces of various art forms, including drawings, paintings, photographs, ceramics and woodworking.

“This event gives us the opportunity to showcase some of our talented faculty, staff and friends of Urbana University,” said Steve McInturff, director of the Miller Center for Visual Arts at UU. “I think the university had a show like this at one time, but it went away. We decided to try to revive it, and I’m impressed with what we have on display.”

The nine artists with pieces showcased include Bri Haines, Kevin R. Fidler, Margaret Tabor, Katherine Smith, James A. White, Cherie Moore, Scott Griswold, Keara Henry and McInturff.

“I think we have some nice, hidden talent on campus,” McInturff said.

To jump-start the exhibit, an opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at the Miller Center for Visual Arts.

The reception, McIntuff said, is open to the public and will feature a woodcarving demonstration by Fidler, a UU graduate student. Easels will be set up so event goers can create their own masterpieces, and refreshments will be served.

Starting Feb. 18, the exhibit will be open to the public through March 5 on Thursdays and Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m.

“It’s well worth your time to come out,” McInturff said.
