Village finalizes property acquisition

WOODSTOCK – For the past several years, village officials have been working with local residents in hopes of acquiring the vacant lot at 106 W. Bennett St., located adjacent to the municipal building. On Monday, Village Administrator Bradley Herron announced the roughly one-10th-acre lot is officially village property.

According to Fiscal Officer Tom Hallinan, the total acquisition cost of the property amounted to $7,300. The land was purchased from village residents Steve and Harley Nott at a cost of $6,500, but to complete the transaction, the village had to pay $550 for a survey of the land and another $250 in legal fees.

Mayor Jackie Hayes said the plan is to use the lot for storage of maintenance equipment and the village truck since the municipal building’s bay is used primarily to store the 1946 Chevrolet fire truck used by the Woodstock Fire Association until 1971.

“We are hoping to have a roofed structure on the property within the next year, and, hopefully, we can eventually make it a fully-enclosed structure,” Hayes said.

In other business:

•The council approved a resolution appointing the village’s representatives to the Northeast Champaign County Fire District (NECCFD) Board. For 2016, Hayes will serve as Woodstock’s voting member on the board, while Herron will serve as the village’s alternate representative.

“Our fire district has got to be one of the best permanent part-time fire districts in the state,” Herron said. “Based on what I’ve seen elsewhere in the way of fire operations, we have a top-notch fire district for our area.”

•Council passed a motion agreeing to pay $60 per person for any council member interested in a training session offered by the Ohio Municipal League.
