SPRINGFIELD – The Clark County Park District offers the following activities.

Butterfly Hike

All ages

Friday, July 17

11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Leadingham Prairie, corner of Union and Spangler Road, Medway

Free; Donations welcome

Over 40 species of butterflies have been identified at the Leadingham Prairie. Butterflies are beneficial to ecosystems as they pollinate many native plant species. Many people travel the world to see butterflies, but you can see them right in your own “back yard.” Things to bring: binoculars, bug repellent, sunscreen, and a water bottle. Be sure to wear a long-sleeved shirt, long pants and old shoes. Call the Clark County Park District at 937-882-6000 for more details.

Night Fishing

All Ages

Friday, July 24

9 p.m.-midnight

George Rogers Clark Park

Hosterman Lake

Free

Join the Ranger Patrol Division for a fun, family night of fishing. Listen to the sounds of the night, visit with family and friends and catch some fish. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to fish Hosterman Lake at night. Bring fishing pole, bait, tackle, insect repellent and lantern or flashlight. Pack some snacks and have a night picnic. (Remember: No alcoholic beverages are allowed.) Place all trash in the trash cans before leaving. Call the Clark County Park District at 937-882-6000 to register by Thursday, July 23.

July Night Ride

All Ages

Friday, July 31

7:30 p.m.

Depart at Beatty Station

Free

Take a night bike ride! Cyclists will depart from Beatty Station and ride the path to Yellow Springs Station. There will make a side trip to Young’s Jersey Dairy on the return. All will stay together as a group from Beatty to Yellow Springs and even to Young’s if desired, then everyone can return on their own. Front and rear lights, as well as helmets are highly suggested. Clear eye protection (not sunglasses) is recommended because of the bugs at night. Take water to keep hydrated during the ride. The ride is open to all riders, but those under 18 must be with a responsible adult. This ride is a collective effort of Ambassadors of Clark County Trails, Clark County Park District, and National Trail Parks & Recreation. Call the Clark County Park District at 937-882-6000 for details.
