SPRINGFIELD – On Sunday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m., local history author John Winkler will present highlights from and autograph copies of his newest book, “Peckuwe 1780, the Revolutionary War on the Ohio Frontier.” This presentation will take place at George Rogers Clark Park in Springfield, the site of the Battle of Peckuwe.

In his book, Winkler walks readers through the events that led to what was the largest Revolutionary War battle fought west of the Allegheny Mountains. Using journals and first person accounts as his guides, Winkler follows the order of battle step by step. The book includes maps of the integral points of the battle and their relationship to current local topography. This is the sixth in Winkler’s series of books on the Ohio Indian Wars.

Guests at Sunday’s presentation will be invited to take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Fair at New Boston.

The Dec. 9 event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the George Rogers Clark Heritage Association and will take place at its headquarters, the Gathering House at George Rogers Clark Historical Park. To find the Gathering House, turn right as soon as you enter the park and follow the signs.
