Two people remained hospitalized Wednesday following a three-vehicle injury crash from Tuesday evening.

According to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, Jill D. Powell, 59, of Springfield, was listed in fair condition at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, while Norma J. Maute, 84, of Springfield, was listed in serious condition at the same hospital as of 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Powell was the driver of a vehicle that was flipped over during a crash on Tuesday night.

At 6:17 p.m. Tuesday, the Champaign County-Wide Communication Center received a 911 call in reference to a three-vehicle rollover injury crash at 3263 U.S. Highway 68.

The Urbana Fire Division along with Moorefield Township Fire and EMS responded to the scene of the crash.

A preliminary investigation from the sheriff’s office revealed a 2013 black Honda Civic driven by Richard Colvin Jr., 43, of Springfield, was traveling southbound on South U.S. Highway 68 and had slowed for a vehicle that was turning into a driveway.

A 2001 silver Dodge Intrepid driven by Julio R. Freeman, 26, of Springfield, was traveling southbound behind Colvin’s vehicle and failed to slow down, crossing into the northbound lane of traffic and side swiping the vehicle before continuing head-on into a 2009 black Volkswagen Jetta driven by Powell.

The Jetta flipped over coming to rest on the driver’s side off the right side of the roadway.

CareFlight was called to the scene and airlifted Powell to Miami Valley Hospital. Maute, a passenger in the vehicle, was transported to Springfield Regional Medical Center before being transported to Miami Valley Hospital.

Two passengers inside Freeman’s vehicle were taken to Mercy Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.

Freeman was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failure to maintain reasonable control, operating a vehicle without a valid license, driving left of center and obstructing official business.

Ratcliff went off the right side of the roadway into a ditch continuing across the driveway entrance, striking a black 2003 Pontiac driven by Ryan N. Myers, 39, of Springfield, that was stopped at the intersection.

Deputies on the scene advised that Ratcliff admitted he had been drinking alcoholic beverages. He was transported to Mercy Memorial Hospital for minor injuries sustained in the crash and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain reasonable control.
