Two people were taken into custody Tuesday after law enforcement responded to a local motel in reference to a shooting.
Angela Easterday and Donald Murnahan were charged after Champaign County deputies responded to the Logan Lodge, 2551 S. U.S. Route 68, at 9:27 a.m. Tuesday in reference to a female reportedly shooting at a vehicle.
Sheriff Matt Melvin said upon their arrival, deputies located Easterday and a vehicle on West Hickory Grove Road operated by Murnahan.
An investigation revealed Murnahan had removed drugs and money from a room he and Easterday had been staying in at the motel. As Murnahan was attempting to leave the lodge, Easterday reportedly fired a round from a .380 pistol striking a tire on the vehicle Murnahan was operating.
Deputies located approximately 29 pounds of marijuana, drug instruments, drug paraphernalia, and two hand guns.
Easterday, 34, of Springfield, was booked into the Tri-County Regional Jail on charges of trafficking drugs in the vicinity of juveniles, possession of weapons while under disability, possession of marijuana, and possession of criminal tools.
Murnahan, 26, of Springfield, was also booked into the jail on charges of trafficking drugs in the vicinity of juveniles, possession of marijuana, tampering with evidence, and possession of criminal tools.
Melvin stated additional charges will be presented to the November grand jury.
