Donations sought for Puerto Rico

The Urbana University Student Athletic Advisory Committee and the Alicia Titus Memorial Peace Fund continue coordinating the collection of items to help people impacted by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.

The Hurricane Relief effort is a countywide project with the coordination and cooperation of the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce, the city of Urbana and the Champaign County Library. Donations of clothing, toiletries, non-perishable food and water may be dropped off at the following locations through Oct. 20:

Urbana University Student Center weekdays 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Champaign County Library Tuesday-Thursday 9 a.m.-8 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Champaign County Chamber of Commerce weekdays 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Due to the overwhelming response in donations moving through the Red Cross, this local effort was encouraged to send all donated items to the United Way Collection Center in Miami, Florida. The items will then be sent to Puerto Rico. The transportation of these items to Miami and Puerto Rico will be through a cooperative effort by local companies and organizations wishing to help those in need.
