Remembrance Day Ceremony honors WWII heroes

0

The Champaign Aviation Museum, located at Grimes Airport, will hold a Remembrance Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. Sept. 30 as a tribute to the men who fought and died for freedom during World War II and served in the Army Air Corps. Families and friends may submit the names of their beloved airmen and have them added to the museum’s Honor Roll at the ceremony. All are invited to the event.

The ceremony will include prayers, hymns and the reading of the names of the 2017 Honor Roll Veteran Inductees.

The Urbana High School Marching Band will play the national anthem. Other participants include the Marine Corps League, Springfield, serving as color guard; U.S. Air Force Chaplain Capt. McKeith providing the invocation; the Connect III Trio singing hymns; the Civil Air Patrol Cadets of the Don Gentile Composite Squadron, Piqua, providing the WWII Flag Presentation Ceremony; and Marine veteran bugler Mike Hamilton playing “Taps.”

Following the ceremony, guests may view and discuss memorabilia made available by the families of the WWII Army Air Corps veterans.

More information is available in the Honor Hall section of the Champaign Aviation Museum’s website, Champaignaviationmuseum.org.
