Graham to create student Tech Corps

ST. PARIS – Graham’s High School students will receive an opportunity for technology credentials that earn them points toward graduation beginning this fall. As part of Graham’s Career Gears system, up to 25 students can become certified in CompTia, a coding language, to create a technology helpdesk at the district.

“The era of credentials is here. Providing students with resume-building, relevant experiences is exactly what this program allows us to do,” said Ryan Rismiller, principal at Graham High School. The goal of the program, funded by a grant made possible by Tech Corps and partner JPMorgan/Chase, is to allow a certified staff member to train a cohort of interested students to run a helpdesk for technology supports. This is one part of Cleveland-based Tech Corps’ STEM outreach programming.

“Tech Corps and their generous grant assistance are making it possible for us to develop a staff member and cohort of students. This is a win-win for us” says Secondary Coordinator Adam Mowery.

Brian Ebersold will become certified by Tech Corps staff this fall to lead students through the work on their certifications during first semester. The district’s technology department will then work to provide students internship experiences to troubleshoot around the district. Select students may be matched with area business partners.
