History of Nutwood to be Historical Society topic

0

On Sunday, Aug. 27, at 2 p.m., Fred Krift will present the history of the historic property Nutwood at the Champaign County Historical Society Museum, 809 East Lawn Ave., Urbana. Nutwood is located behind the former armory on North Main Street.

Krift and his wife, Ellen, share a lifelong love of how architecture and family history contribute to a sense of place and how that combination persuaded them to make Nutwood their family home 20 years ago. They say they feel a connection with the Ward family pioneers who built the Virginia-style brick home over 200 years ago, as well as with CCHS stalwart Errett Lewis, who lived there and saved museum artifacts in the property’s Round Barn.

The Nutwood property includes the Round Barn, which can be viewed from Grimes Field and nearby areas.
