PAWS Animal Shelter (dog)

Hello, folks. My furfriend and I are in kind of a pickle because we need a home together. We are very bonded and also the sweetest girls you will ever meet! My name is Baby (a Wheaten Terrier mix) and my friend is Peggy (a Beagle mix). We are 3 1/2 years old, potty trained, leash trained and we ride curled up in the back seat of your car without uttering a sound… we are so good.

We like other doggies and we love all the humans, especially the little kids. Recently, we went to an Adoption Event and had fun shopping, meeting, and playing with all the humans and a few of the visiting four legged customers. Everyone there said we were just the best behaved little girls. We are here at PAWS in Urbana while we wait for our perfect home. We were brought here by our previous pet parents.

Please consider us as your new family addition. We are a little scared here at the shelter… there are big dogs here and they sure make a lot of noise… Thanks for reading about us and please come out and meet us.

Champaign County Animal Welfare League

A delightful addition to the pack here at Champaign County Animal Welfare League (CCAWL) is beautiful Bristle, an Old English/English Bulldog. She came to us as a breeding failure from an Amish puppy mill. She may have been a puppy mill failure, but she has succeeded in winning the hearts of everyone who is around her. She loves to walk short periods on a leash and is very interested in her surroundings. Bristle gets along with cats, dogs, adults and children. She is four years old and weighs sixty-five pounds. As with all CCAWL pets, Bristle has been spayed, micro-chipped, heart-worm tested, fully vaccinated and on heart-worm and flea prevention. She also comes with her 2017 dog license and has had a doggy-dental. Having been in a puppy mill, Bristle is not house-trained but she is very smart and eager to please. A caring and patient owner would soon be able to help Bristle succeed with her house-training skills.

Bristle is a very lovable lady and would love to have you visit her at 3858 state Route 56, Mechanicsburg. We are open every day except Sunday and Tuesday. You may call us at 937-834-5236 for find out our exact hours if you wish to plan a visit. An approved application is required and these may be found online at champaigncoanimalwelfareleague.com or at our rescue.

Dog lovers know the basics of keeping dogs safe in summer: Bring lots of water with you on walks, watch for the signs of your dog overheating and never, ever, ever leave a dog in the car – even on days that don’t seem that warm. But it might come as a surprise to some dog owners that the very pavement beneath your dog’s paws could be sizzling hot. And hot pavement can have gruesome and painful consequences. Asphalt gets very hot and can burn your pet’s paws, so walk your dog on the grass if possible. To see if the street temperature is safe enough for a walk with your dog. Put the back of your hand on the pavement, and if you can’t keep it there for five seconds, it’s too hot for your pup’s feet.

Barely Used Pets

My name is Abby and I am a 3-year-old Chihuahua mix girl. I came all the way up here from a shelter in Kentucky. They had me scheduled to be euthanized and I am not sure what that means, but they say it is really bad. But a good friend of the dogs down there called and said “Help Miss Abby. Please! So Barely Used Pets brought me and my friend Axel here so we could find homes. I love to play ball as long as it’s small enough for me to pick up. I am house trained, spayed, up to date on shots, love and I mean love to go for walks! I get along great with other dogs and kids. Most cats are bigger than me! Come out to see me and let’s go for a walk. You can tell me all about you and your family and I can tell you how grateful I am to be here and all of the reasons why you have to take me home with you! They say I dodged a bullet because I got saved just in time. I say “Thank You so Much!” to Barely Used Pets for stepping up for me and Axel!

Our regular hours are: Open Sunday 1-4pm, Wednesday and Thursdays 11am-6pm, Fridays 11am-5pm and Saturday 11am-2pm. We are closed on Monday and Tuesday. We can always use donations and they are all of those basic supplies that we use so quickly. We are in real need of lots and lots of paper towels! If you can bring us some we would surely appreciate it. Miss Abby says…”Thanks so much for considering me and helping Barely Used Pets help all of us little ones find our forever homes! OK…so what are you waiting for? Let’s go home!”
