Rhythm & Foods Friday, Saturday

Ten musical acts, countless food and beverage vendors and numerous merchandise sellers are set to converge on the Champaign County Fairgrounds this weekend for the third annual Rhythm & Foods Festival.

This year’s event will take place 4-11 p.m. on Friday, June 16, and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, June 17. Admission is $15 for both days or $10 for Saturday only. Children 12 and under are admitted free.

The event is organized by Rhythm and Foods LLC, a local business owned by St. Paris residents David and Darcy Bacher.

Musicians scheduled to perform on Friday include McGuffey Lane (5-7 p.m.), Flat Duo Jets (7:30-8:30 p.m.) and The Reverend Horton Heat (9-11 p.m.).

Saturday’s musical lineup features seven acts: Coal Canyon (noon to 1 p.m.), Acrylic Grooves (1:30-2:15 p.m.), 12 til 2 (2:45-3:30 p.m.), Kyle Eldridge and the Rhythm Rounders (4-5 p.m.), Ty Cooper (5:30-6:30 p.m.), JP Harris (7-8:30 p.m.) and Raven Cliff (9-11 p.m.).

As of Monday afternoon, Mr. Bacher said, 33 food and beverage vendors were signed up along with 30 merchandise vendors.

To increase the number of merchandise vendors onsite and to better situate the food vendors closer to the activity at the fairgrounds, the decision was made this year to move all merchandise vendors into the Merchants Building.

Making a weekend of it

For eventgoers wishing to stay at the fairgrounds, camping is available Thursday through Saturday at a cost of $50 per night and includes two free weekend passes to the festival. Check-in is after 3 p.m. on Thursday, and after 9 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. All campsites feature water and electric hookups, and showers and dump stations are also available onsite.

All available campsites, Mr. Bacher said, will be sold (cash and check only) on a first-come, first-served basis at the Powell Avenue gate.

Sponsors of the third annual Rhythm & Foods Festival include Game Time Sports Center, Streamline Design & Print, BNFS Insurance, Edward Jones – Financial Advisor: Jerome H. Armstrong, LiveShopper, the Ferryman Family, Ward Excavating LLC and Markin’s Pump Service.
