Memorial Day Service honors veterans, active military at Gloria Theatre

A Memorial Day worship service planned for Sunday, May 28, at the Gloria Theatre in Urbana will honor military veterans and current service men and women. The Urbana United Methodist Church invites them, their families and the public to the service, which will begin at 10 a.m.

Retired USAF Lt. Col. Thomas D. Schulte Jr. will be the guest speaker. Schulte was awarded five Air Medals for his service flying an MC-12W spy plane supporting NATO Special Forces in Afghanistan, He also has served as an instructor pilot and flown the F-4E Phantom air-to-air and air-to-ground fighter, the A-7D Corsair air-to-ground attack aircraft and the KC-135R air refueling aircraft.

From Wheelersburg, Schulte earned a bachelor’s in aeronautical and astronautical engineering and a master’s in aeronautical science at The Ohio State University.

The joint headquarters of DAV Chapter 31 and VFW Post 5451 will open the service by posting colors. The music ministry of Urbana United Methodist Church will provide music.

The Gloria Theatre is located at 216 S. Main St., Urbana. A nursery and programming for children will be provided.
