YMCA hosts 3-on-3 Charity Basketball Tourney

0

On Saturday, the Champaign Family YMCA will host its first 3-on-3 Charity Basketball Tourney. Envisioned to be an annual event, the tourney will act as a fundraiser for organizations in the community that help meet the needs of Champaign County citizens. This year, part of the proceeds will be donated to Project Woman, an organization that helps survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in Champaign, Clark and Madison counties.

Registration for the event will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, and the festivities will begin at 9 a.m. with a kick-off from motivational speaker Mike Pistorino, a thriving adult survivor of child sexual abuse who is using his powerful voice to save children, inspire survivors of abuse to heal, and motivate thousands of people around the world to be champions for change in their lives, their families and their communities. He has extensive experience working with and speaking to children. He will be speaking twice during the day and has pulled together a team to play in the tournament.

This event is designed for community members of all ages, and all walks of life, so even community members who are not athletes can still join in the fun. The event will feature plenty of games for spectators like Free Throw and 3-Point Shooting contests. These contests will be held as the tournament runs for a $5 buy-in, and feature a cash payout for the winner. The Dine and Dash food truck service will be available in the parking lot for lunch for patrons of the event.
