Champaign County Chamber presents OH Bureau of Workers’ Compensation awards

The Champaign County Safety Council, a program sponsored by the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce, presented 20 area companies with awards from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation for maintaining safe and healthy workplaces. Awards were given based on performances in 2016 and were presented at the April 19 meeting of the Safety Council.

The company with the lowest incident rate among similar enterprises was given the Group Award. This year’s recipients were KTH Parts Industries, Macochee Joint Ambulance District, Pioneer Electric Cooperative, Inc., Shaffer Manufacturing, Shippers Automotive Group, Urbana University, and the Village of West Liberty.

Any employer who worked the entire calendar year without an injury or illness resulting in days away from work was given the 100% Award. Honeywell International, Inc., Howell Buildings Company, KTH Parts Industries, Macochee Joint Ambulance District, Mechanicsburg Exempted Village School District, Sarica Manufacturing, Shaffer Manufacturing, Shippers Automotive Group, Tech II, Urbana University, the Village of West Liberty and Yoder Concrete Construction received this award.

Employers who reduced their incident rate by 25 percent or maintained a zero percent incident rate received the Achievement Award. These employers included American Pan Company, Heritage Cooperative, Inc., Johnson Welded Products, Inc., KTH Parts Industries, Mechanicsburg Exempted Village School District, Robert Rothschild Farm LLC, Shippers Automotive Group, Tech II and Vancrest of Urbana.

The Special Award was given to companies that accumulated at least 500,000 work hours and at least six months without an injury or illness resulting in days away from work. Recipients were Heritage Cooperative, Inc., Honeywell International, Inc., KTH Parts Industries, Mercy Memorial Hospital, Mercy McAuley Center, Tech II and Urbana University.

The Chamber is accepting enrollments for Safety Council for the 2018 fiscal year. Enrolled employers are eligible to receive a rebate of up to 4 percent on their workers’ compensation premiums. Interested companies, organizations and individual employers can contact the Chamber at 937-653-5764 by July 31 to obtain additional information.
