County jobless rate unchanged in December

Champaign County’s jobless rate remained at 4.1 percent in December 2015, according to information from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

While the number of unemployed people remained at 800, the number of employed people increased by 100 to 19,400 from November to December 2015.

The county’s jobless rate was also 4.1 percent in December 2014 with 800 unemployed people and 19,200 employed people.

Champaign County was one of 25 counties in the state with an unemployment rate of 4.1 percent or lower last month.

Logan County’s unemployment rate last month was also 4.1 percent, with 1,000 unemployed people and 22,700 employed people.

Mercer County had the lowest unemployment rate at 3.1 percent, while Monroe County had the highest at 10.7 percent.

Champaign County’s average unemployment rate for 2015 was 4.3 percent, with an average of 900 unemployed people and 19,200 employed people. In 2014, the average unemployment rate 5.0 percent with 1,000 unemployed people and 19,000 employed people.

Champaign County’s unemployment rate in 2015 was highest in January at 5.5 percent and was at its lowest in October 2015 at 3.7 percent.

Ohio’s unemployment rate was 4.7 percent in December 2015, up from 4.5 percent in November. Ohio’s nonagricultural wage and salary employment increased 15,200 over the month from a revised 5,436,300 in November to 5,451,500 in December 2015.

The number of workers unemployed in Ohio last month was 269,000, up 14,000 from 255,000 in November. The number of unemployed people decreased by 23,000 in the past 12 months from 292,000. The unemployment rate for Ohio was down from 5.1 percent in December 2014.

The U.S. unemployment rate for December was 5.0 percent, unchanged from November and down from 5.6 percent in December 2014.
