MECHANICSBURG – No injuries were reported after a fire ripped through a Mechanicsburg home on Monday afternoon.

Mechanicsburg Assistant Fire Chief/EMS Chief Steve Castle said his department responded to a call at 4:25 p.m. of a house fire at 109 W. Sandusky St.

Upon arrival, Castle said, crews immediately assessed the situation and determined all individuals and animals inside the home had safely evacuated.

“The initial threat was under control inside of 30 minutes,” he said. “Our initial assessment appears the fire probably started in the kitchen, but it’s still under investigation.”

The inside of the home appears to be a total loss.

“There’s probably not too much to be salvaged on the interior, but the exterior is probably salvageable,” Castle said.

According to the Champaign County Auditor’s website, the home is owned by Dennis and Betsy Rogers.

Mechanicsburg Fire & EMS was assisted at the scene by the Urbana Fire Division, the Northeast Champaign County Fire District, the Union Township Fire Department, the Pleasant Township Fire Department and Box 13 Fire Associates of Urbana.
