Sample soup, bread to help the library

The Friends of the Champaign County Library will host its seventh annual Soup and Bread Tasting event on Saturday at the county library, 1060 Scioto St. in Urbana.

The event, which will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or while supplies last, will feature approximately 15 varieties of soups and 15 different breads.

“The majority of soups and breads are made or donated by the Friends of the Library,” said Alicia Schneider, Friends of the Champaign County Library events chairperson. “A few are donated by local businesses and restaurants.

“We also assemble a booklet of the recipes that participants can take home with them,” she added.

While there is no charge to attend the tasting, donations will be accepted.

“While our book sales held the first weekend in May and October are our biggest fundraisers, the soup and bread sampling gives the community a chance to visit the library and see all it has to offer while enjoying delicious food,” Schneider said, noting last year’s event was attended by 150 people. “The funds (donated during the event) are used for programs at the library like the Winter Read Club – open for all ages – which is currently taking place.”
