WEST LIBERTY – The third annual West Liberty Tour of Homes will be held noon-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15. Proceeds from the tour will go to the West Liberty Business Association and be used for community events.

On tour this year will be the Town Hall and Bobbi’s Bungalow, a new bed & breakfast in the community, as well as three family homes. Tickets for the tour are $15 and can be purchased at the Town Hall during the tour. Public restrooms are located in the Town Hall. Maps will be available at the Town Hall during the tour.

Refreshments will be available from Sweetie Pie’s at all tour stops, and the Grove Community Center will provide water at the ticket sales table.

The Adriel Quilt Auction will be held earlier in the day.

Town Hall

The first stop on the tour will be the Town Hall, which underwent an extensive renovation in 2015. The first-floor council and township meeting rooms, the village clerk office and the new public restrooms will be on tour. Additionally, the second floor, which will be part of Phase III of the renovation and is basically a time capsule of a 1940s music hall, will be on the tour. This is a chance to learn about renovations that have been done and those that are planned.

Bobbi’s Bungalow

The next stop on the tour will be a newly founded and renovated bed & breakfast, Bobbi’s Bungalow. The home features classic 1920-1930s era décor, as well as beautifully restored wood floors, bathroom and built-in cabinetry. The owners are active members of the community, Jeff and Roberta Yoder, who own and operate Yoder Concrete Construction, LLC. There will be an Open House in conjunction with the Tour of Homes.

Carroll Family Home

Also on tour will be the lovely and welcoming Carroll family home on Runkle Street. The family was drawn to the home’s great historic character with a few new additions. The home is decorated traditionally, with a mix of old and new décor.

Mac-A-Cheek Piatt Castle

The next two stops on the tour are just east of the village along Township Road 47. First stop is the Mac-A-Cheek Piatt Castle, constructed in 1864 and 1871. This is a 25-room castle that bears unique historical ties to the community. The Ohio Greater Living History Association will present a WWII event on the lawn during the tour.

Gratz Family Home

Next door is the Gratz family home, formerly known as “The Pioneer House,” a nearly 200- year-old cabin nestled on three wooded acres. Most of the home is decorated with 18th and 19th century antiques. The structure was part of the Underground Railroad. Hammered dulcimers will be played at this location.

Moell Family Home

The final stop on the tour is the Moell family home, located conveniently off U.S. Route 68 on West Kanagy Road, just south of West Liberty-Salem schools. The 4,000-square-foot home has been beautifully restored and boasts a lovely guest suite with exposed beams in the attic, as well as a cozy screened-in back porch and stone patio. The home is decorated in the Early American style with comfortable modern amenities. It has since been painted over by a previous owner, but the home once featured an amazing mural on the front living room fireplace painted by a Native American guest in exchange for food in the 1800s. Live music will be provided at this location.
