Council previews police levy presentation

ST. PARIS – The village council and local residents got a preview of a presentation on the village’s upcoming police levy during Monday’s regular meeting.

The village will hold a public meeting at 7 p.m. on Oct. 18 in the municipal building, 135 W. Main St., to inform residents about the 5- year, 4.9-mill additional levy for the purpose of providing, maintaining and operating the police department.

Council member Terry Ervin II showed a draft of a PowerPoint presentation to get feedback from council and the public.

Prior to council’s regular meeting, a public hearing on the electric aggregation ballot question was held. Another public meeting on electric aggregation will be held Nov. 7 at 6:30 p.m.

In other action:

•Council agreed to offer a contract to village magistrate Darrell Heckman through Dec. 31. During the Sept. 19 meeting council tabled approving a contract for Heckman.

•Sampson informed council the village received a net of $4,926.32 from auctioning village items during the Pony Wagon Days Festival.

•Elmer Ropp asked for council’s permission to use the municipal building for an American Legion Post 148 meeting later this month. Council approved this request and the meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Oct. 20.

•Trick or Treat or Beggar’s Night will be held on Oct. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. Council discussed offering space for a potential Trunk or Treat event on the same date for interested groups at the municipal building’s parking lot or in front of the former Graham junior/senior high school, 370 E. Main St. Council postponed making a final decision on the location of the Trunk or Treat decision until the Oct. 17 meeting. Council member Jana Crawford volunteered to be the contact person to see where people want the event to be held.
