A man who pleaded guilty to domestic violence charges from a July incident was sent to prison last week.

Richard McFadden, 27, received a four-year prison sentence during a sentencing hearing held on Sept. 27. McFadden pleaded guilty to two fourth degree felony charges of domestic violence, a fifth degree felony obstructing official business charge and a second degree misdemeanor resisting arrest charge on Aug. 30.

On July 10, Urbana police officers were dispatched to his residence on a domestic violence call involving him and his pregnant spouse.

According to his spouse and witnesses, McFadden shoved her to the ground while walking home from a night of drinking after he became angry with her. He then reportedly choked her and punched her in the stomach.

The victim ran to a friend’s nearby home and the friend walked her home a short time later. McFadden arrived, reportedly forcing the door open and throwing a baby car seat and striking another person in the head.

McFadden then allegedly punched his wife again and made threats to hit her and witnesses with a car jack he picked up. Prior to police arriving, McFadden reportedly obtained a kitchen knife and began making slashes at the women, cutting three fingers of a person. He also proceeded to grab a pizza cutter to use to make threats before picking up furniture and throwing it throughout the apartment.

After officers arrived, they attempted to take McFadden into custody, but McFadden refused to cooperate. He was finally secured in a police vehicle and taken to the Tri-County Regional Jail, Mechanicsburg.

Throughout the encounter, McFadden made continuous threats to the women and officers.

According to court documents, the court imposed the maximum sentence for the felony charges because McFadden was on probation for domestic violence when the violent conduct occurred, he used a knife during his criminal conduct and assaulted a video arraignment jail officer during an official court proceeding.

In addition to the prison sentence, McFadden was fined $900 and ordered to pay $479 in restitution. Upon his release, McFadden is subject to post release control for a period of up to three years.
