The Urbana Civil Service Commission approved two eligibility lists for an entry-level patrol officer position Wednesday.

The commission initiated the hiring process for patrol officers in July.

Urbana Police Lt. Seth King informed the commission through the hiring process 44 applications were received, 34 people showed up for testing and 17 candidates passed both the written and physical portions of testing.

The commission approved a patrol officer eligibility list with 17 candidates and then approved a patrol officer certified eligibility list with the top eight candidates.

The eight candidates on the certified eligibility list in order of highest to lowest scores are David K. Schultz, Kerrie B. Kimpel, Adam R. Hixson, Andrew J. Ervin, Robert S. Jenkins, Alec G. Sears, James L. Dunn and Jacob P. Rowe.

King explained the list had eight candidates due to two current vacancies and the anticipated vacancy due to his retirement.
