Greenehorne Gallery to open in downtown Mechanicsburg

MECHANICSBURG – Local attorney Bradley Jeckering hopes to make a positive impact on the village and art community through his newest endeavor – the opening of a downtown art gallery.

Since his law practice opened earlier this year in the office formerly occupied by the late William “Bill” Saxbe, Jeckering said, he’s spent time visiting with residents in hopes of finding ways he could contribute more to the community. One idea stood out above the rest, and on Saturday, Greenehorne Gallery will open its doors at 9 S. Main St.

“My brother (Chip Jeckering) is an artist, and he is part of an art collective (Greenehorne Art Collective) looking to highlight young Ohio artists’ work,” Jeckering said. “We thought it would be a great way to help revitalize the downtown area and contribute to art awareness, especially when local school budgets are cutting art programs from the school.

“The hope is that the gallery can showcase work from the Greenehorne Art Collective, local Mechanicsburg/Urbana artists, local students and other artists in Ohio,” he added.

After consulting with his brother’s art collective, Jeckering decided Greenehorne Gallery will highlight three particular mediums – oil paintings, sculptures and pottery.

“Those are the mediums that the Greenehorne Art Collective uses, and they’re fairly common,” he said. “We think there is a broad base of work out there that could also be exhibited.”

Whether an oil painting by a local student or a sculpture made by an aspiring young artist, Jeckering said, the arts can take a community to new heights.

“The collective and I are passionate about our local communities and contributing to the growth and success of the world around us,” he said. “Art can be like the glue of a community. Think about the statue in Monument Square or the murals on the side of buildings. Art is something that an entire community can take pride in, and we hope to bring some of that vibrancy into downtown Mechanicsburg.”

Open house

The Law Offices of Bradley Jeckering will kick off the official opening of Greenehorne Gallery by hosting the Mechanicsburg Gallery Stop from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday inside the gallery’s revamped downtown location at 9 S. Main St.

“The gallery space is amazing,” Jeckering said. “The building was built in the late 1800s, and it has really cool exposed brick and plaster work. The floors are old and rustic. It’s one of the coolest gallery spaces we’ve seen.”

Along with live music provided by Daniel Dye, the Raging Bull Wood Fired Pizza food truck will be on hand for the grand opening along with Hemisphere Coffee Roasters.

“It should be an amazing night for the community with good food, good drinks and great art,” Jeckering said. “All pieces on display will be available for purchase and available for pickup the following Monday.”

Greenehorne Gallery is open from noon to 6 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. Appointments may also be made.

“We plan on holding art classes on the weekends for kids 12 and under, partnering with the local schools to highlight other young artists, and hosting an event once a month to bring the community together in downtown Mechanicsburg,” Jeckering said.
