Triad board selects architect

NORTH LEWISBURG – Triad Local Schools’ board approved an architectural firm for future projects.

The board selected WDC Group LLC of Springfield to serve as the district’s architect of record at its Monday, Sept. 19 board meeting.

Superintendent Chris Piper said the district reviewed five different firms before making the decision. The state of Ohio has a process for school districts to follow to select an architect of record.

The district is considering a number of building improvements as the school buildings age, and having an architect already selected speeds up that process. One of the first projects that needs work is replacing windows around the district, Piper said. That project will probably occur in the summer next year.

The school board also heard about the district’s 2015-16 school report card, released Sept. 15. Piper said results across the state are down. Some of that can be attributed to rising standards, some to new tests. Piper said he is pleased to see the district’s value-added data, which shows how much progress students made in learning. Triad was 36th in the state for value-added data, out of 612 districts, Piper said.

Piper added it is hard to compare results to prior years because of different tests, different ways of taking the tests (online or paper), and other issues. Triad is also a smaller school, so it does not always have all the programs other school districts have, which counts against them in some categories.
