A Dayton man who pleaded guilty to possession of heroin was sent to prison earlier this week.

Michael W. Chambers, 38, was sentenced to six months in prison during a sentencing hearing Monday. In addition to the prison sentence, Chambers’ driver’s license was suspended for six months and he is subject to post release control for up to three years.

Chambers was indicted in September on three counts of promoting prostitution and one count each of possessing criminal tools, possession of heroin, possession of marijuana and obstructing official business, stemming from conduct on Aug. 26.

On that date, Urbana police responded to a report of a suspicious occupied vehicle in the area of the 100 block of Wards Lane. Upon arrival, police observed a male who identified himself using a fake name and then took off running.

Police pursued the man and located him hiding in a shed behind a nearby residence. The man, who was identified as Chambers, was taken into custody.

The promoting prostitution charges were dismissed along with three other charges when Chambers pleaded guilty to possession of heroin on Oct. 19.

Court documents state Chambers committed the crime while he was on probation from the Dayton Municipal Court for aggravated menacing and falsification and while he was under post release control supervision from the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court from a 2009 case in which he was charged with intimidation of a crime victim, menacing by stalking and felonious assault.

Chambers has three pending warrants for offenses of violence including two from the Franklin County Municipal Court and one from the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court.

A woman from the suspicious vehicle, Corri A. Carter, 26, of 256 E. Nottingham Road, Dayton, was also arrested for drug possession on Aug. 26. Carter confirmed that Chambers was in the car with her and they had been at the residence where Chambers was caught hiding.

The grand jury indictment contended that Chambers supervised, managed and controlled the activities of a prostitute in engaging in sexual activity for hire. The indictment further states he transported Carter in order to facilitate her engaging in sexual activity for hire.

Carter pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine, a fifth degree felony, on Nov. 6 and a sentencing hearing is scheduled for Dec. 1 where she faces a maximum 12 month prison sentence and a mandatory driver’s license suspension.
