Champaign County voters OK majority of local issues

The following local election issues were approved by voters in Tuesday’s election, according to unofficial results at the board of elections:

Adams Township road renewal levy

Johnson Township road renewal levy

Johnson Township road replacement levy

Mad River Township road renewal levy

Rush Township road renewal levy

Christiansburg Market sales of beer

Mechanicsburg schools income tax renewal

Urbana schools renewal levy

Champaign County Library renewal levy

Maple Grove Cemetery replacement levy

Northeast Champaign County Fire District replacement levy

Village of Mechanicsburg additional levy for EMS/emergency services

Village of Mutual renewal levy for fire services

The following local issues were defeated:

Salem Township additional levy for roads

How the state issues fared with local voters:

In Champaign County, Issue 1 (a state legislative redistricting overhaul) was widely favored by local voters by a 2-1 margin; Issue 2 (an anti-monopoly issue) was narrowly favored and Issue 3 (an issue legalizing marijuana) was failing by a nearly 2-1 margin.

Absentee ballots in Ohio

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted announced that 483,953 absentee ballots were requested in the 2015 General Election. As of Monday night, 383,375 absentee ballots had been cast by mail and in person, and 100,578 absentee ballots remained outstanding.

Based on an informal survey of Ohio’s 88 county boards of election, as of Nov. 2:

· 483,953 – Number of absentee ballot applications received.

· 383,375 – Number of absentee ballots cast.

· 246,382 – Absentee ballots cast by mail.
· 136,993 – Absentee ballots cast in person.
· 100,578 – Number of outstanding absentee ballots.

Statewide vote counts were delayed

Due to polling problems in Hamilton County that involved the new electronic polling check-in system, voting results were delayed. Polls in the affected Hamilton County precincts closed at 9 p.m. instead of 7:30 p.m. after a judge ruled they remain open longer due to the problems.
