FFA News

On May 5 and 6 several members of the West Liberty Salem FFA chapter attended State FFA Convention. While there we visited OSU’s livestock facility on Sawmill Rd. and learned about the farm’s operations and the animals. A huge thank you to Greg Fogle for allowing us to visit. The chapter also heard Tiana Tozer tell her tragic story of life after being hit by a drunk driver. Thank you Mrs. Tozer for speaking and teaching us it’s important to take advantage of all of the little opportunities life has to offer. Also a big thanks to Jones Loflin co-author of the book Juggling Elephants for speaking as well. Mr. Loflin’s message was about how to prioritize things in life and how to be the person in charge of your own personal “circus.” On Friday our FFA chapter visited the Ohio State Stadium before heading back to convention the convention center where Mallary Caudill, Becky Wilkins and Rachel Hostetler earned Gold-ratings for their officer books. Rachel Hostetler also received her State Degree.

On May 11 West Liberty Salem’s FFA chapter had the annual Ag. Science Day for the elementary students and special needs class. The students brought in their own equipment and animals to educate the students about agriculture, its importance and farm safety. Pigs, sheep, goats, beef heifers, rabbits, chickens, ducks, a horse and a dairy feeder were all on display. A sprayer, combine, baler, manure spreader and two tractors were among the stations that the students visited. Thank you to those students who brought in livestock and equipment as well as the students who educated the elementary on Ag Science Day. The Chapter would also like to thank Heritage Cooperative for donating gates to hold the animals for a day. Also thank you to the WL-S elementary teachers for taking time out of your day to give us the privilege of educating the students about agriculture.
