NORTH LEWISBURG – Triad Local Schools voters have three open seats to fill on the district’s school board, but only two candidates to fill them.
The two candidates are incumbent board President Chris Millice and Vice President Randy Moore. The third open seat is occupied by board member Matt McConnell, who is not on the November ballot due to a candidate petition problem.
Both Millice and Moore say they are running to improve academics, maintain financial stability and improve community relations.
Millice, 52, of Cable, is vice president of KTH Parts Industries Inc. He is a Triad graduate and a graduate of Bowling Green State University with a bachelor’s degree in procurement and production. He has been on the Triad school board for the past 12 years and is a member of the Cable United Methodist Church.
“I enjoy being part of the local community and ensuring the tax dollars are spent as efficiently as possible, while trying to meet or exceed our academic goals,” he said.
Moore, 52, also of Cable, is an employee at Honda. He is a 1981 graduate of Triad High School and has been on the Triad board for the past 12 years. He is a member of the Urbana Moose Lodge.
“I enjoy serving in a community that has played a large role in my life and I am also encouraged and excited about the direction the school is heading under our new superintendent, Chris Piper,” he said.
Both Millice and Moore cite an interest in improving academic achievement at the district and keeping the district financially stable. Millice said he wants to improve community involvement in the district, while Moore said he wants to improve community and school relations.
McConnell said he is interested in being reappointed to his seat. His candidate petition was rejected by the Board of Elections because of signatures from other counties being on the wrong county pages.
Millice said after the election the school board will seek applications from those interested in serving on the board to fill McConnell’s seat. McConnell said he “plans to put his hat in the ring” when the opportunity for appointment comes up later this year.
“I have every intention of remaining on the school board, if they will have me,” McConnell said.
The election is Nov. 3.
