Both drivers involved in a two-vehicle crash this week remained hospitalized as of Thursday afternoon.

On Monday at 6:50 p.m., an injury crash at North U.S. Route 68 and West Kanagy Road was called into dispatch.

A 17-year-old male driver involved in the crash was listed in serious condition as of Thursday afternoon.

An initial investigation by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office revealed a Ford Ranger driven by the teen was traveling southbound when the driver attempted to stop for a vehicle turning onto West Kanagy Road. The teenage driver went left of center to avoid striking the vehicle in front of him, however, he failed to observe a vehicle traveling northbound, causing the two vehicles to collide head-on.

The vehicle traveling northbound was driven by Steven B. Grimes, 34, of Zanesfield. Grimes was listed in good condition as of Thursday afternoon.

Both drivers were flown to Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, via CareFlight following Monday’s crash.

Champaign County Sheriff Matt Melvin said Wednesday the crash remained under investigation pending a citation.
