Multiple departments respond to structure fire on East state Route 29 on Tuesday

Multiple fire departments responded to a structure fire behind a residence Tuesday.

The Mechanicsburg Fire Department was called to a fire at 4800 state Route 29 around 4:23 p.m. The fire took place in a small storage barn at the rear of the residence. The structure was a total loss.

The cause of the fire was under investigation as of Wednesday afternoon. No damage estimate was available at the time of publication.

The department stated a man was treated for minor burns, but was not transported to a hospital. No other injuries were reported.

The Urbana Fire Division along with the Northeast Champaign County Fire District arrived to provide mutual aid.

The property is owned by Shelley J. Claybaugh, according to the Champaign County auditor’s website.
