The Urbana Police Division is asking for the public’s help in obtaining information about a rash of damaged car windows over the past week.

Urbana Police Chief Matt Lingrell stated Wednesday that over the past week police investigated a handful of car windows shot out with a BB gun.

The incidents started on July 8 with two destroyed windows in a vehicle parked in the Melvin Miller parking lot.

On July 9, police responded to Windsor Avenue, the 200 block of South Kenton Street and the 300 block of Henry Street on windows and cars being shot with a BB gun.

On Monday and Tuesday, police responded to the 700 block of South Kenton Street, each time on the report of a car window destroyed by a BB gun.

Lingrell stated police believe some of these acts happened during daylight hours. Police also believe the perpetrators may be driving in a vehicle while the shooting occurs, however, no one has reported suspicious vehicles or people.

Lingrell stated police are asking residents to look out for their property and their neighbors’ property and, if they see anything suspicious or have knowledge of these crimes, to notify police immediately at 937-652-4350 or 911.
