After increasing three straight months, Champaign County’s unemployment rate decreased in August, according to information released Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

The county’s unemployment rate decreased from 4.7 percent in July to 3.7 percent in August.

Between July and August, the number of unemployed people dropped by 100 to 800 people while the number of employed people increased by 200 to 19,300.

In August 2014, the county’s unemployment rate was 4.9 percent with 19,100 employed people and 1,000 unemployed people.

Champaign County was one of 21 counties in the state with an unemployment rate of 3.7 percent or lower.

Logan County’s unemployment rate was 3.5 percent, a decrease from 4.1 percent in July.

Mercer County had the state’s lowest unemployment rate at 2.7 percent while Monroe County had the highest at 8.3 percent.

Ohio’s unemployment rate was 4.7 percent in August, down from 5.0 percent in July. Ohio’s non-farm wage and salary employment increased 14,600 over the month from a revised 5,396,500 in July to 5,411,100 in August.

The number of workers unemployed in Ohio in August was 265,000, down 21,000 from 286,000 in July. The number of unemployed people has decreased by 45,000 in the past 12 months from 310,000. The August unemployment rate for Ohio was down from 5.4 percent in August 2014.

The U.S. unemployment rate for August was 5.1 percent, down from 5.3 percent in July and down from 6.1 percent in August 2014.
