The Urbana Police Division, along with other law enforcement agencies throughout Ohio, will be participating in the National Enforcement Mobilization “Click It or Ticket” which runs from May 23 through June 6, 2016. The goal of this initiative is to raise motor vehicle driver and occupant awareness and compliance levels to wearing safety belts while using roadways.

Wearing safety belts has been shown to reduce the number of injuries by half. In 2015, there were 302,307 total traffic crashes and 1,110 deaths reported in the state of Ohio. In Urbana, police investigated 403 crashes, including 67 injury related crashes that resulted in 2 fatalities and 90 injuries.

As drivers, please be sure to buckle up and encourage your passengers do the same.
