Fashions to a Tea event celebrates elegance and education

Fashions to a Tea, an annual celebration of the beauty of surviving breast cancer, will be 5-9 p.m. on Oct. 8 at the Champaign County Fairgrounds. The theme this year is “Breast Cancer with Elegance and Grace.” The guest speaker is Dr. Pamela Bucklew-Wilder. The event will include shopping, dinner, survivor recognition and a modeling event.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women. One of eight women will develop breast cancer during her life. This means one new diagnosis every two minutes.

Fashions to a Tea is planned by Breast Friends Forever of Champaign County, whose mission is to educate, empower, encourage and embrace all at risk for breast cancer. The committee consists of friends, relatives and survivors of breast cancer. Each month they meet at Mercy Memorial Hospital to determine how to better be of service to the women of Champaign County in their fight against breast cancer.

The event is one of six sessions in the “Passport to Wellness” series of health seminars and family events to explore a healthier world. Attend at least five sessions for chance to win prizes. The series is presented by Mercy Memorial Hospital, Champaign Family YMCA and Champaign Health District.

Tickets for the Fashions to a Tea event cost $12 and are available at First Central National Bank (St. Paris), Gentle Care Health Center (Mechanicsburg), Perpetual Federal Savings, People Savings, YMCA and Mercy Memorial Hospital (Cashier). Tickets may also be purchased online at fashiontoatea18.eventbrite.com or by calling Sandy Wagner at 614-580-4574.
