Howell Buildings Company, a Champaign County-based builder that serves central Ohio, has been awarded Lester Building Systems’ top national honor for dealers who sell and construct the company’s customized, pre-engineered post-frame buildings for agricultural and commercial customers.

Terry Howell, owner of Howell Buildings, was presented the Lester Dealer of the Year Award at Lester Buildings’ regional dealer sales meeting in Charleston, IL. He was chosen from Lester’s national network of 130 dealers for outstanding customer service and business growth. In addition, Lester presented him the Thanks a Million Award, which recognizes dealers who sell more than a million dollars in Lester Buildings in one year.

“I derive great joy in taking a customer’s vision for a building project and helping them bring it to reality,” said Howell, who has been in the building business since 1974. “We work hand in glove with customers, forming a team to accomplish their vision, while maintaining good communication and staying on budget and schedule.”

Howell established Howell Buildings Company in 2009 and started his career as a sales representative for Butler Manufacturing, selling and constructing grain storage bins and steel buildings in Ohio. In 1978 he received Butler’s Master Sales Award for 1977 sales of $4.2 million, up from $1.2 million just two years before. From 1985 through 1991 he served as regional sales manager for Butler, working with contractors in 26 eastern states.

Today, Howell Buildings serves agricultural, commercial and municipal customers throughout central Ohio. The company builds Lester post-frame and conventional structures and Chief Buildings steel frame construction. A new construction option Howell offers is energy-conserving structural insulated panels (SIP).

In his career, Howell also has owned Howell Timber Structures, Inc. and has represented Wick Building Systems. Before establishing Howell Buildings Company in 2009, he supervised and coordinated planning and construction of a 70,000-square-foot plant and distribution center for Wick near St. Paris, and managed the facility.

Howell’s range of projects has included livestock and other agricultural buildings, buildings for state prison farms, commercial facilities, warehouses, airplane hangars, storage and shop buildings for a major golf course, and a 40,000-square-foot vegetable and storage processing building for Michael Farms of Urbana.

Howell, an agricultural economics and agricultural education graduate of The Ohio State University, is a Champaign County native and owns with his wife, Jacquelyn, a 740-acre grain farm.

Terry Howell’s son, Andy, district sales manager for Lester Building Systems, presents him Lester Building Systems’ Dealer of the Year Award at the company’s Charleston, IL, facility.
