A man was ordered to spend multiple years in prison Tuesday for the abduction of two juveniles last year.

Dakota W. Bailey, 19, was sent to prison for a total of three years for two third degree felony abduction charges.

Bailey was originally indicted in December on multiple charges including four first-degree felony kidnapping charges stemming from two incidents in November involving two teenagers.

According to a Champaign County Sheriff’s Office court statement filed in the Champaign County Municipal Court, Bailey threatened to kill a victim on Nov. 24, 2015, and placed a gun to his head before assaulting him. The victim stated Bailey kept asking where marijuana valued at $4,000 was.

In a separate incident on the same date, another victim told law enforcement he was assaulted and had a gun placed to his head while in a vehicle where Bailey reportedly put him in a choke-hold.

This victim, Jordan Edley, 16, was killed in a fire at 122 S. Main St., Woodstock, on Dec. 23, 2015.

Bailey pleaded guilty to the two abduction charges during a Feb. 12 hearing and a sentencing hearing was scheduled for March 21.

Tuesday’s hearing was a continuation of a sentencing hearing that started on March 22. The court continued the hearing to spend more time evaluating the case and to determine the appropriate sentence due to the nature of the case and the positions set forth by the two parties.

Judge Nick Selvaggio said Tuesday the case was one of the more difficult sentences the court has had to consider. He commented that Bailey’s conduct involved the abduction of two juvenile victims in two separate incidents where deception was used to lure victims before him.

Selvaggio added the crime was conducted along with four other juveniles in retaliation to a theft that occurred at his residence. The crime also occurred while Bailey was on community control stemming from a hunting without permission offense from the municipal court.

In addition to the prison sentence, Bailey was classified as a Tier I child-victim oriented offender requiring him to verify this in-person for 15 years and he was also fined $1,000.

Upon his release, Bailey is subject to post release control for a period of three years.
