LIVE! with Regis and Kelly kicked off their "Home for the Holiday Makeover Week" with a segment that included an Urbana woman being treated to a head-to-toe makeover on Tuesday morning.
Andrea Curtis was nominated for the program after her fiance, Danny Ohler, wrote a letter to the "LIVE" staff asking if Curtis could receive a makeover. For the past three years Curtis has stayed home to care for her ailing father who recently passed away in April of this year.
"She never thinks of herself, putting others before her," Ohler had written in his letter to the "LIVE" staff. "I wanted to be able to surprise her with something that would boost her self confidence."
Anyone who sought a new look this holiday season, whether they were coming home from college, having family gatherings, or simply wanting to wow someone with a transformation, were encouraged to write into the nationally-viewed morning program and tell their story.
The "LIVE" staff narrowed their search down to five "very unique and special women" from all over the country including Curtis, who deserved a head-turning makeover.
"I'm glad I got selected," Curtis said about the makeover on Tuesday. "But I'd have my dad back in a minute."
Curtis was excited visiting New York as well as nervous about going on LIVE with Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa.
Getting ready to go on stage was a lot of "hurry up and wait for the next step," Curtis said, recalling a nervous knot forming in her stomach.
"Regis and Kelly were very nice," Curtis said. "Regis held my hand the whole time. I think he knew I was nervous."
During her first visit to New York, Curtis enjoyed the sights and sounds of the big city. "There was something to do on every block," she said.
"It really made me feel good," Curtis said about the makeover. "I look nice everywhere I go even in jeans. I am confident."
