Some Champaign County residents, especially those who lived in the Graham school district around 1980, may remember the musical Thornhills - Tina, Anita and Lynna and their mother, Sally.
Two of the sisters, Tina and Lynna, along with Patty (Smith) Kniss, another early-1980s Graham grad, continue making music as part of Thornhill, entertaining in Springfield, Ill., with "rootsy alterna pop that rocks," according to a CD of songs by band leader Tina.
Although most of the musicians were members of other musical groups in Champaign County, Thornhill originated with Sally and daughters Tina and Anita, Kniss and Chuck Brierton of Springfield, Ill., after the Thornhills and Kniss moved there from Champaign County in the early 1980s.
Back then, the group's forte was easy rock, according to Sally, who lives with husband Todd Weatherhead in Urbana.
The band has changed in musicians and music over the years, with Tina and Patty the only remaining charter members.
Anita left the group and sister Lynna joined. Brierton also left, and Joel Zulauf came aboard.
As the group plays various venues in the Springfield, Ill., area, the musicians are working on a second CD.
