Local residents to attend education discussion with governor
Special to the Citizen
Gov. Ted Strickland is hosting 12 "Conversations on Education" throughout the state in the next few months and three local residents have been invited to participate in those conversations.
They are to focus on the mission and six principles for education reform the governor laid out in his State of the State Address. According to a release, the governor will give citizens the opportunity to discuss proposed ideas on creating a system of education reportedly linked to economic prosperity in Ohio.
The meetings, which are by invitation only, will be broadcast on local PBS stations and streamed live on the Web.
Marcia Ward, principal at Graham Digital Academy, will be a charter school stakeholder participating in the upcoming "conversation" forum at the Dayton Convention Center, to be held on July 29.
Although Ward has been selected to be in attendance, there isn't a guarantee that she'll be able to share her views on the issues, as individuals will be called upon randomly to speak. If given the opportunity, Ward is expected to address issues including school choice, funding and accountability.
Also, the Ohio School Boards Association has selected Warren Stevens, vice president of the Urbana Board of Education and representative to the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center board, and Gene Hodge, vice president of the Mechanicsburg Board of Education, to participate in the "conversation" at the University of Dayton on July 29.
